Follow in the footsteps of Australian Diamond and Melbourne Vixens goaler Tegan Philip by competing in the 2015 Schools Championships.
The Netball Victoria Schools Championships are one of the largest netball tournaments in Australia with almost 500 schools across the state competing in 2014.
Talent Identification Scouts have been known to approach promising young netballers in the past, as was the case for a young Tegan Philip, spotted by Netball Victoria Coach Development Coordinator Nicole Richardson when she was playing for Geelong’s Christian College in 2006.
“Tegan’s athleticism, creativity and flair on the court caught the eye of Netball Victoria Talent Identification Scouts at the Waverley International Schools Tournament,” said Richardson.
Philip hadn’t realised that the tournament presented an opportunity to progress her netball career.
“I wasn’t aware at the time that scouts were watching the competition, I was just there to have fun with my friends and play the sport I love,” Philip said.
“It has played a pivotal part in my netball pathway and I will always remember it as a great development tournament.”
In 2015, preliminary rounds will be held on weekdays throughout July and August at the State Netball Hockey Centre as well as in Mildura, Knox, Waverley, Gippsland, Bendigo and Geelong.
Divisions include primary (grades 5 and 6 only) and secondary boys, girls, mixed and all abilities.
The top 10 teams proceed to finals at the State Netball Hockey Centre in September. Philip is set to host an hour training session* with winning schools in each division and will be present at the finals to crown the state champions.
