Netball Victoria is pleased to confirm that Victorian umpires Kathryn Sobey, Danielle Trowell and James Matthews have been appointed by Netball Australia to officiate at the 17/Under and 19/Under National Netball Championships.
The national competition is run over six days at the Waverley Netball Centre in Melbourne from Monday 7th April, through to the last day of finals on Saturday 12th April.
All three umpires are currently officiating in the Victorian Netball League and are excited about the experience of working with umpires from across Australia.
Netball Victoria Umpire Development Coordinator Ann Castles said it was excellent to have Victorian umpires recognised for their hard work and dedication to their craft.
“We are absolutely thrilled that Netball Australia have recognised three of our umpires for the National Netball Championships right here in Melbourne,” Ms Castles said.
“Not only is this a fantastic opportunity for them to umpire some of Australia’s brightest netball talents, but in terms of development and working in a team environment, it is really great chance to work with other umpires and learn from some of the best in the business.”
Both Sobey and Trowell have been recognised for their consistent performances over the last few years, having both officiated at Underage National Netball Championships previously and attaining their respective A grade badges, whilst for Matthews the national championships will be a first for the B-badged umpire.
Netball Australia has also appointed All Australian umpire and Victorian native Raechel Richards as Umpire Coach for the competition.
Richards is currently one of Victoria’s High Performance Umpire Coaches working with the Victorian Netball league Umpire Squad and the B grade High Performance squad.
Netball Victoria wishes all of our umpires involved all the best ahead of the National Championships in Melbourne.
