International experience for Netball Victoria’s up and coming athletes!

Netball Victoria play host to the English 19/U side in five matches in the coming week. The English side have travelled to Melbourne in an effort to expose their underage athletes to the Australian style of play.

Jan Crabtree, the National Academy Head Coach, said the aim of the tour was to “gain an understanding of the Australian style of play and experience it firsthand. They know they will be put under pressure and they will be testing how their game holds up in this environment. They will also be learning how to cope with jet lag and playing paying back to back games.”

The English side was selected back in April and have been training weekly within in their own Daily training environments before coming together as a group for a two-day training camp and a match against the NSL select Squad.

With many of Victoria’s talented athletes currently competing with the Victorian Fury in the Australian National League (ANL), England’s visit provides an opportunity for some of the state’s best up and coming athletes to gain international experience.

The English side will compete against both Tiers of the Netball Victoria Talent squad as well as the VNL Division 1 team of the year and VNL 19/U team of the year. Match times and teams are outlined in the schedule below.

The English side will also be spectators on Saturday at the ANL Semi finals at Waverley Netball Centre where the Victorian Fury will hope to continue their three-game undefeated streak against the Queensland Fusion at 5pm.
