The 2015 Australian Netball League (ANL) will get underway this weekend in Canberra with defending champions the Victorian Fury preparing for a double-header in Canberra
Netball Victoria is delighted to announce that Fiona Themann will captain the side, with Stephanie Puopolo and Elle Bennetts as her vice-captains.
Fury head coach Kristy Keppich-Birrell said it was exciting to work with players she had watched develop and become leaders in their own right.
“Each athlete in our leadership group brings something unique, this was clearly pointed out when their teammates publicly nominated them and gave an explanation surrounding their reasoning,” Keppich-Birrell said.
Keppich-Birrell also acknowledged the outstanding performance of the Fury teams in the past but was clear in establishing this new group of athletes were chasing their own history.
“In this group of athletes we have certainly set the bar high, the outcome we want is to win.”
“To win we know that we have to be the most polished and prepared team on and off the court. In such a short sharp season it takes a special group of people prepared to do everything possible to get to this point.”
“I believe we have that special group again.”
Looking ahead to their opening match this weekend against the NSW Waratahs, Keppich-Birrell is ready for the challenge and a ‘cracking game’ of netball.
“Both teams out to start the season in a winning way. There is nothing like a good hard challenge to find out who in the squad is prepared to run the plan and be responsible in stepping up in every way.”
