Netball has featured prominently in the 2013 Victorian Sport Awards, with Netball Victoria receiving six nominations with athletes, coaches, teams and officials represented.

The Victorian 17/U side that won last year’s national netball championships in Darwin was named the Junior Team of the Year. The award was accepted by Australian Diamonds vice-captain and Melbourne Vixens captain Bianca Chatfield.

John Castles, who has been involved in netball for more than 30 years, was named the Victorian Official of the Year.

The top award on the night, the Victorian Sportsperson of the Year, was won by leading Australian cyclist Simon Gerrans, with Netball Australia CEO Kate Palmer being named the state’s top sports administrator.

The awards were streamed live for the first time and highlights from the night can be found at www.mysportlive.com.au
