Netball Victoria has announced the coaching line-up for the 2014 Victorian state teams set to compete in the Underage National Netball Championships in Adelaide and Melbourne next year.
Strong campaigns earlier this year saw Victoria in the top half of the draw across all divisions, warranting the reappointment of the head coaches, who will again be buoyed by a team of experienced support staff.
Kristy Keppich-Birrell remains in charge of the 21/U team, whilst Nicole Richardson will be gunning for another title after coming away with the 17/U crown in 2013, Richardson moving into the head coaching position with the 19/U side and Leesa Gallard appointed to the 17/U coaching position.
Former Australian and Victorian representative Nicole Richardson said that as a past Victorian player, she is ‘honoured and excited to have been given the opportunity to lead the 2014 19/U Victorian team’.
Keppich-Birrell, who was recently part of the inaugural Victorian Flames coaching team in the Australian Netball League (ANL), is excited about the prospect of again working with the Victorian 21/U team in pursuit of a national title.
“I am looking forward to the challenge of working with a new group of athletes and support staff to create our 2014 team that plays the unique brand of Victorian netball. We will be relentless, creative and successful, the challenge is there for us to take together,”Keppich-Birrell said.
Netball Victoria CEO Michelle Plane said that the Victorian underage teams are ‘certainly in capable hands’ following the appointment of three experienced professionals for the 2014 championships.
“It is great to have three coaches appointed to these roles who have strong backgrounds with the Netball Victoria development pathways and a great understanding of the athletes coming through the system,” Plane said.
“The quality of the coaches who both applied and were appointed is reflective of the investment by Netball Victoria in our coaching development pathways and programs over a number of years. We are delighted to have such a talented pool of coaches and team support staff, and we believe that Victoria will again have a strong showing at the National Championships.”
Trials for the 2013 Victorian State 17/U, 19/U and 21/U teams will commence mid-October. The 2014 Underage National Netball Championships will take place in March and April next year.
