Fury share spoils with Sting

SNHC tile newThe Victorian Fury shared the spoils with the Western Sting in Round Four of the Australian Netball League at the State Netball Centre in Perth over the weekend.

Strengthened by the inclusion of West Coast Fever players Kate Beveridge, Erena Mikaere, Josie Janz-Dawson, Ingrid Colyer and Kaylia Stanton, the Sting proved too strong, prevailing 57-46.

Jane Cook was a standout for the Fury in attack, shooting 22 from 25 (88%).

The defending ANL champions bounced back on Sunday with a 63-49 win against the Sting.

In an impressive 25-goal turnaround, the Fury were led superbly by Melbourne Vixens’ duo Kelsey Browne and Emma Ryde who made their first ANL appearances for the year.

Ryde was under the spotlight in the attacking third, contributing 44 of the Fury’s 63 goals. Browne controlled the mid-court throughout the match, bringing energy to the team.

Victorian Fury Head Coach Cathy Fellows said, “It was a good opportunity for the girls to come up and test themselves playing against ANZ Championship players.”

“In the first match they had five players from the Fever play four quarters, so it was a good opportunity for us to measure where we are at and what we need to do to improve.”

The Victorian Fury will host the Southern Force in Round Five of the ANL at the Margaret Court Arena on Saturday 28 May prior to the Melbourne Vixens’ clash against the Adelaide Thunderbirds. The second match will take place at the State Netball and Hockey Centre on Sunday 29 May.

Netball Victoria are offering a two for one deal upon entry on Sunday. Make sure you come down and support the Fury in their clash against the Force.
