A message from the Lord Mayor of Melbourne

The City of Melbourne is a proud sponsor and supporter of the Melbourne Vixens, one of our City’s great sporting teams.

The Melbourne Vixens, like the Melbourne Storm, the Victorian Bushrangers, the Melbourne Rebels, and the Melbourne Heart and Melbourne Victory, are a team that young Victorian athletes aspire to represent.

These clubs are great ambassadors for our city and I want to take this opportunity to congratulate our latest success story, the Melbourne Victory, on their win in the Westfield W-League Grand Final.

I am confident the Vixens, like their counterparts at the Victory, can go all the way in 2014.

After a preliminary final appearance last year, coach Simone McKinnis and the team’s outstanding captain, Bianca Chatfield, will ensure the Vixens are primed to take their game to the next level.

With four new players in the Vixen’s line-up this season, Cath Cox, Caitlyn Strachan, Jo Weston, and Liz Watson, the team will be ready to lift the Trans-Tasman Netball Leagues ANZ Championship trophy this year.

To everyone at the Melbourne Vixens: the players, coaching staff, support staff, and everyone behind the scenes who work so hard to make this club so special, the very best of luck in 2014.

Robert Doyle
