The Independence Australia Victorian All Abilities Squad has appointed their Coach and Team Manager for next year’s national netball competition, the Marie Little OAM Shield, and are now looking for netballers to represent the state and defend the title in 2015.
2014 Victorian All Abilities Team Coach Janet Parker will continue to coach the team again next year with Parkville All Abilities Coach Josh Meldrum appointed as Team Manager. This will be Meldrum’s first time working with a Victorian All Abilities Squad, however, he’s confident that previous experience in Parkville will put him in good stead to support Parker.
Netball Victoria is inviting females aged 15 years and above to try out for the Independence Australia Victorian All Abilities Squad, however, all participants must be aged 16 years or older in 2015 to compete in the tournament. Parker encourages participation and explains that the competition is an opportunity for young netballers to express their passion for the sport, “The Marie Little OAM Shield is an excellent way for the states to get together and play the game that we all love.”
The Marie Little OAM Shield began in 2013 and has established itself as the premier netball tournament in Australia for netballers with an intellectual disability. The competition is named in honour of Marie Little OAM, a woman who dedicated her life to improving the lives of those with a disability by advocating for inclusion in Australian sport. Founder of AUSRAPID and president from 1986 until 2011, Marie Little OAM sadly passed away earlier this year after a battle with cancer. Her legacy will live on through the Marie Little OAM Shield.
Independence Australia Victoria All Abilities Squad trials will be held from 10am-1pm on Sunday 7 December at the State Netball Hockey Centre. Participants are advised to bring their own lunch, snacks, water bottle, NV number and details of where you play.
Details regarding the date and location of the 2015 Marie Little Shield will be released at a later date.
