Netball Victoria congratulates former Victorian Fury head coach Kristy Keppich-Birrell on her appointment as an assistant coach for the Adelaide Thunderbirds.
Keppich-Birrell is undefeated in two years as head coach of the Fury team in the Australian Netball League, leading the team to back-to-back championships and a 32-game winning streak. The qualified teacher will take leave from her position as head coach at the Rowville Sports Academy in Melbourne, to fulfil the role of assistant coach at the Adelaide Thunderbirds.
“It’s a great opportunity for me to take part in the re-building of a fantastic franchise, and a big step to move interstate,” said Keppich-Birrell who has a young family in Melbourne, and will re-locate to Adelaide for the ANZ Championship season.
“The chance to work with Michelle, and knowing how professional the entire organisation is, swayed my decision to join the Thunderbirds. As a pathway coach, it’s an opportunity to see how I work within an ANZ Championship franchise, and to be part of something pretty special.
“My kids are aged five and eight and are both girls, and when I told them I’d be working with the ‘pink team’ they both cheered at the dinner table. I have a very supportive husband and family, and Michelle has been really supportive as well. It’s lovely for the girls to see that mum can be the role model,” Keppich-Birrell said.
