Want to learn how to play netball…then ANZ NetSetGO is the program for you.
Netball Victoria is proud to introduce the use of dance and music during ANZ NetSetGO as a way to develop essential skills used in netball, and best of all it’s fun!
The dance activities, which have been designed with netball related skills in mind, are a great way to develop a range of fundamental motor skills that are used in netball. This includes twisting, turning, bending, leaping, dodging, skipping and sliding.
Livingstone Netball Club has embraced the new program with Program Co-ordinator Nicole St John noting that the new look program has encouraged some of our shy participants to gain confidence and join in with both dancing and the other components of the program.
“Livingstone Netball Club has found that the inclusion of the dance component into our ANZ NetSetGO program has increased and improved both our young girls and boys skills,” Ms St John said.
“It is an opportunity for our young participants to develop their netball footwork and fitness skills in a really fun dance format. The inclusion of dance has added a new element to our program and it is one that both our participants and their parents have embraced.” As an early adopter of the program, Livingstone
Netball Club were able to demonstrate their dance skills in front of a capacity crowd at Rod Laver Arena when the Australian Diamonds played the Silver Ferns in 2013.
“Our girls were given an amazing opportunity to display their new found ANZ NetSetGO dance component skills during half time of the international test series in Melbourne. We have never seen the girls so excited and enthusiastic about showing everyone their new dance skills.”
Netball Victoria Community Participation and Development Manager Stacey O’Neill said that the introduction of dance into this years ANZ NetSetGO program provided a great opportunity for young participants to incorporate music and fun movements within their warm up.
“It comes as a surprise to many people that the element of dance is actually very beneficial to netballers, with balance and footwork being fundamental skills within our sport. The dance DVD provided by Netball Australia is a great resource which equips all centres with the necessary ‘moves’,” Ms O’Neill said.
