Southern Saints secure Australian coach

The Southern Saints have again secured an experienced coaching team for the fast approaching 2014 Devine Victorian Netball League with the reappointment of current Championship and Australian Fast5 Coach Jane Searle.

The Australian coach will continue her duties with the club after signing on for another year, just missing out on the top four on percentage, Searle is eager to continue the development of her team as they look towards the upcoming season.

A previous ANZ Championship coach with the West Coast Fever for three seasons, plus 12 years at the helm of the Victorian Institute of Sport netball program, it goes without saying the Searle’s coaching record with the elite speaks for itself, a sentiment that Southern Saints President Ross Payne echoes when describing Searle’s pull at the club.

“Southern Saints are extremely pleased to announce that Jane has been re-appointed as Championship coach for 2014. To have a coach of Jane’s experience and standing in the netball world, is a great opportunity for everyone involved with the club and it brings a new level of expertise and professionalism to the Devine VNL competition,” Mr Payne said.

By her side, Searle will have experienced coaching staff working hard to continue the growth and development of their youth. Guy Keane will lead the Division One side again for season 2014 after working with the Saints in various coaching positions over the last three years. As a player, Keane has represented Victoria in Men’s netball since 2005 and has won six National Championships for Victoria, whilst also representing Australia since 2006.

Looking after the Under 19 Division in 2014 will be Jacqui Toy, who has been with the club since 2010 when she was the 19’s assistant coach under Dan Ryan. A great pairing, she spent another year alongside Ryan before taking over as the Division One head coach in 2012 and a mentor role in 2013.

“Guy brings a wealth of playing experience from the elite Men’s competition, plus his years of service as a coach with the club. We are extremely lucky to have the service of such a talented up and coming senior coach for our Division One team.

“We are also delighted to welcome back Jacqui as our Under 19’s Division coach for the 2014 season. Jacqui has a long list of career coaching achievements in both NSW and in Victoria, her knowledge and experience is second to none and will help develop our next group of senior players for the club.
