Tran Truong of Riddell & District Football Netball League has been rewarded for her determination and sportsmanship with the 2015 Ryan Medal, the League’s Best & Fairest award.
Truong has played with Riddell & District Netball Club since 2009, winning two premierships in that time, and says the best thing about netball is that it’s an enjoyable way to exercise.
“Irrespective of your life stage, it’s really important to keep yourself active and to continue doing things that keep you motivated and challenge yourself,” said Truong.
“Success isn’t an entitlement, you have to work for it.”
The 41-year-old was born in Vietnam and sought refuge in Australia with her family at a young age. Given her cultural background, Truong wasn’t familiar with the sport of netball and learned the rules through practice when she started playing at school.
The A-graders for her club don’t train together, so Truong says it’s important to keep on top of their fitness individually.
A standard week for Truong consists of 2-3 cross fit sessions. She also plays mixed netball at Altona Netball Association.
