Barwon Respect Netball Cup a success

The annual Barwon Respect Netball Cup was held at Kardinia Park, Geelong on Friday 25 October.

The event encourages year nine students across region to take the lead in promoting healthy and respectful relationships.

The event aims to raise awareness of gender-based violence and build the capacity of students to recognise the early warning signs of relationship violence and to become active bystanders to prevent disrespectful and abusive behaviour.

Nine secondary schools and 120 students participated in interactive workshops which explored themes of gender equity, masculinity, gender role expectations and the ways in which these things impact on the health of individuals.

St. Joseph’s College, Clonard College, Colac Secondary College and Western Heights College all took home awards for their performance on and off the netball court.

The Barwon Respect Netball Cup is supported by Barwon Health, Barwon Community Legal Service, Women’s Health and Wellbeing Barwon South West Barwon and Netball Victoria.
