Fury striding to the south

Following a successful Round 1, the Victorian Fury will look to continue their winning streak against the Southern Force in Round 2 of the Deakin University Australian Netball League (ANL).

Sitting on top of the ladder after claiming two strong wins last round against the Canberra Giants, Fury will travel to Adelaide on Saturday.

Head coach, Di Honey highlights the main focus this week has been on throw ins and long court connection.

“We’ve been going through our throw ins, right down the court, but we are still focusing mainly on full court defensive pressure and looking for that turnover ball before it gets to their circle…that’s what wins the game in the end alongside good shooting and is a major factor of any game.”

“We are working on our combinations so that when we do make changes with our subs, everyone just adapts really quickly and we get on with it no matter who is on court,” Honey said.

The Force and Fury last met in Round 3 in the 2018 season, which saw Fury take home two big wins, one narrowly by 2 and the other by a convincing 17 goals.

“We’ve had a look at the footage of the Force’s first round games and what we’re coming up against, but I just really want to keep building and grow the connections on court.

“We’re just hoping to implement what we’ve been working on in the pre-season and our skill set so it comes second hand to the girls and by finals hopefully we’re really hitting our stride.”

“I’m really looking forward to the weekend, but I’m one of those coaches who believes it means nothing that we won both games in Round 1, we’ve finished that now and we’ve just got to get on with the next game and take it week by week,” Honey said.

The Victorian Fury will take on the Southern Force at Priceline Stadium, Adelaide this Saturday following the Vixens v Thunderbirds game and Sunday.
