Great partnerships resulted in a successful netball program for people of all abilities in Donald.
The Mallee Sports Assembly, Netball Victoria, Donald Netball Club, Donald High School and the Donald Primary School all worked together to provide increased physical activity options for people of all abilities. This is also supported by Dept of Health and Human services (under the sport & recreation umbrella) who also focus on inclusive sport & recreation.
Pam Ferrari of Netball Vic attended the first two sessions to assist with the facilitation. Kelli Griffiths and Xanthi Rice both from the Donald Netball Club also attended to assist the sessions to provide guidance and coaching to the participants. School teacher Samantha Beckham and VCAL students, Jackson Murray, Jakeb Smulders, Sam Downes, and Luke Devine also provided great assistance with the facilitation of the sessions for 3 out of 4 weeks. Once again the Donald Primary School provided their wonderful stadium to allow this happen and ensure all sessions are not interrupted due to inclement weather.
Participants and staff from McCallum Day Services-St Arnaud, Woodbine-Warracknabeal and community members come along each week. The sessions included warm up drills, goal shooting practice and then followed by an energetic and fun game of netball. This sport is very popular with all ages and genders and can be played all year round.
Rhonda Allan of the Mallee Sports Assembly attended the final session. Rhonda thanked all involved to assist with the success of the program. Rhonda presented each organization with a “Certificate of Appreciation” as a small of token of thank you for their contribution.
