Netball Victoria Re-Launches Talent Academy

Netball Victoria has re-launched its talent academy for athletes between the ages of 15-19 years old, reframing the former academy to create the Netball Victoria Talent Academy to the high-performance pathway.

The Netball Victoria Talent Academy (formerly Zone Academy) provides a holistic program that focuses on the development of individual athletes through three core components, physical preparation, technical and tactical skills and wellbeing/ off court development which will help begin their pathway journey.

As a part of the high-performance pathway, athletes are selected to trial for their nearest academy at Netball Victoria’s TID (Talent Identification) events such as Association Championships and State Titles.

After a review of the 2018 format, updates have been made to the program to ensure that athletes are developing and being exposed to quality coaching for progression through the pathway.
Feedback from the review highlighted that while athletes were receiving adequate development, more exposure to the Bupa Victorian Netball League and other pathway programs was desired. Travel requirements and time commitments were also identified as a significant barrier for athletes and coaches to participate.
Mid-courter, Tayla Honey took part in the academy program which has prepared her to become one of Melbourne Vixens’ newest recruits in 2019.

“The Academy program was quite a big part of my netball journey as it was the first real step in learning about and being a part of a high-performance environment,” said Honey.

“It was a place where I was able to consolidate my basic skills and expand my game sense as well learn about systems and team strategies, then to bring that together on the Inter Academy weekend.

“The program allows access to some of the best coaches and netball minds, and through them you’re able to develop your skills and game sense, as well as learning what it takes to progress with your netball.”
