Victorian Fury goaler Rahni Samason has been named Deakin University Australian Netball League MVP, after a stellar season.
Samason is the most prolific goaler in the Fury for 2018,scoring 441 goals for the season plus an additional 83 during this weekend’s finals.
Fury coach Leesa Gallard said that Samason has had an outstanding season.
“It’s been fabulous to see her progression and her development and how she really owns that goal circle,” Gallard said.
“I’m just really pleased for Rahni that the effort and the performances that she’s put out across each game have been noticed and rewarded with such a wonderful award.”
Samason grew up playing netball at Dingley Netball Club in Melbourne’s south-east.
Now a Melbourne Vixens Training Partner, the 20 year old said she was lost for words after receiving the award.
“When I got told, I just burst into tears because it was just such a shock,” Samason said.
“It’s unbelievable. I’m just super, super excited and happy.”
“Last year was my first year with the Fury but I didn’t get to play much because of injury, but being able to come out and really shine this year is indescribable.”
Samason said that the whole team contributed to the award, crediting the Fury midcourters.
“I think our midcourters really highlighted my ability.
“They made me look good with their passes, and everyone’s belief in me just really encouraged me to do my best.”
The Victorian Fury finished the finals weekend in fourth place, after going down to the NNSW Waratahs in the playoff for bronze this morning.
