The Netball Victoria B grade camp was held last weekend with participants from Bairnsdale, Kerang, Geelong, Mildura, Mornington, Nhill, Pakenham, Warrnambool and metro areas heading down to the Waverley City Netball Association Junior and Senior Competition.
All umpires participating received feedback from umpire coaches on their performance, with group sessions to follow the practical elements of the day and fitness testing also on the agenda.
Level 3 Umpire coach Richelle McKenzie, took a session on “ What coaches like to see in umpires” which included a practical component with all participating so the umpires could experience what coaches are teaching their athletes.
Kate Wright, who had just returned from umpiring the New Zealand and Malawi international test conducted a session on “Discipline and Advancing Penalties” which was an excellent session for the B Grade umpires, followed by match play concentrating on positioning, vision and advantage.
Netball Victoria Umpire Development Coordinator Anne Castles said the weekend camp was an excellent opportunity for the umpires to work together and share their experiences.
“Overall the camp was a great success. We had so many enthusiastic participants and it was definitely a valuable experience for all involved,”Mrs Castles said.
