Community Umpires

Netball Victoria Community Umpires are qualified umpires who officiate at Netball Victoria competitions and external competitions that are supported by Netball Victoria.

Community Umpires are offered opportunities at various locations across the state, all year long, and they can select which opportunities they are interested in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Community Umpires need to have:
- 2025 Netball Victoria membership
- Current Umpire Badge Accreditation
- Current Rules of Netball Exam (completed within the last 4 years)
- Valid Working with Children Check (required for any umpire over 18 years old only.)

(If you umpire regularly with your local association or league, you will already tick these boxes!)

There is no minimum age to become a Community Umpire - everyone is welcome to register regardless of age as long as you meet the above requirements.

We do ask for your date of birth on the registration form. This is to ensure we can verify WWCC of any umpire over 18 years old, as well as to ensure extra support for any of our umpires under 18 years old.

Yes, Community Umpires will be paid for any competitions where they officiate.

Payments may vary depending on the competition; however you will be aware of the payment being offered prior to being asked to submit your availability.

Opportunities are offered to Community Umpires to officiate at various Netball Victoria competitions and Netball Victoria supported competitions including:
- Netball Victoria School Championships
- Netball Victoria Association Championships
- VACSAL Carnival, VAHS tournament and other First Nations competitions
- Schools competitions and trials (SSV & AGSV)
- Australian Defense Force competitions
- SEDA competitions
- UniSport competitions
- Regional inter-league tournaments
and many more!

Opportunities are offered all across the state including both metropolitan venues and at locations in regional Victoria.

Locations offered in 2025 so far include State Netball Centre (Parkville), Bendigo, Bundoora, Frankston, Geelong, Hamilton, Kilsyth, Knox, Melton & Traralgon. 

Community Umpires will receive regular emails about upcoming opportunities,
Emails will have detailed information about opportunities including dates, times, locations, payment as well as a link to submit their availability if interested.

The competitions offered to Community Umpire can be at any time!

- Some competitions may be during school terms or even during school holidays.
- Some may be on a weekend, often Sunday, or even across a whole weekend.
- Some competitions or opportunities may be a few hours, while other may be all day or across a few days.
- Some opportunities may be divided into morning and afternoon session depending on the competition format.

Community Umpires can select what competitions, days, times etc they are available and interested in umpiring!

Community Umpire will receive:
- payment for all competitions they officiate,
- umpire coaching to improve umpiring skills (specific competitions only),
- information about upcoming umpire development opportunities, workshops and course,
- discounts to attend various umpire development opportunities,
- the chance to spend time on court with like-minded friends who also love umpiring netball!
