VICTORIAN REGIONAL ACADEMY OF SPORT

The Victorian Regional Academies of Sport (VRAS) support emerging athletes in regional Victoria. The VRAS program, in partnership with Netball Victoria, provides development opportunities for regional athletes transitioning into the 15/U age group and Netball Victoria Talent Academy.

Netball Victoria is pleased to announce a partnership with the Victorian Regional Academy of Sport (VRAS) that has seven regions throughout Victoria take part in a program that provides development for potential Talent Academy athletes transitioning into the 15/U age group.

The aim of this agreement is to both assist Netball Victoria to reach and service regional areas and to support aspiring Netball athletes in the regional centres of Victoria.

The program links Netball Victoria’s High Performance Pathway Programs, in particular the Talent Academy Program with the Regional Academies of sport on a larger scale.

Barwon Sports Academy (Geelong), Bendigo Academy of Sport (Bendigo) & BAS North East Academy (Shepparton), Gippsland Sports Academy (Newborough), South West Academy of Sport (Warrnambool), Sunraysia Academy of Sport (Sunraysia) and West Vic Academy of Sport (Ballarat) are the seven regional academies that participate in the program.

REGIONAL ACADEMIES

Led by Program Manager Kirsten Hood, the BSA Netball Program provides a high-performance pathway combining technical and tactical coaching, holistic education, strength & conditioning, and access to elite netball ambassadors. Coaching is led by head coach Susan Meaney and assistant coaches Mel Savage, Tegan Philip and Tori Honner.

Strength & conditioning is delivered in Terms 3 and 4 to align with athlete workloads in the Barwon region. Athletes can also access elective sessions including Cultural Ally, Female Athlete, Sport Integrity and Careers in Sport. Each netballer receives a complimentary uniform, plus discounted physiotherapy and screening, bulk-billed scans and council gym vouchers. The program concludes with an Inter-Academy Challenge against other regional Victorian academies.

The GSA Program is designed to support emerging athletes transitioning into the 15 & Under age group, with the aim of preparing those identified as potential Netball Victoria Eastern Talent Academy athletes. The program focuses on developing each athlete’s readiness for selection into the next stage of the high-performance pathway, the Netball Victoria Eastern Talent Academy, which progresses through to State Team opportunities.
The program provides a comprehensive development environment, incorporating specialised on-court training, structured strength and conditioning, sports psychology education, and nutrition guidance to support holistic athlete growth and performance readiness.
The program has two primary goals:
1.	Attendance and performance at Association Championships
2.	Preparation for and attendance at Netball Victoria Eastern Talent Academy Trials.
To ensure appropriate levels of challenge and development, the program will be delivered across two tiers:
•	Dare to Develop a Diamond (DDA) Program – targeting athletes identified with strong potential for Talent Academy selection.
•	Development Program – supporting athletes building toward future pathway opportunities while continuing to strengthen their foundational skills and performance habits.
Our program provides a clear and supported pathway for athletes aspiring to progress within the Netball Victoria talent framework.

The SWAS Netball Pathway Program supports talented regional netballers in their progression toward the Netball Victoria Talent Academy (NVTA), while providing additional development for athletes already identified within the pathway. The program aligns with Netball Victoria’s high-performance framework, with a strong focus on technical and tactical skill development, athlete wellbeing, and physical preparation.

Through a structured training environment and access to expert coaching and resources, the SWAS program bridges the gap between community netball and state-level pathways. Athletes selected into the program may be nominated to trial for the NVTA upon recommendation from the SWAS coaching team, offering a clear and supported pathway for aspiring high-performance netballers.

Supported by Netball Victoria and delivered in partnership with the Mildura Netball Association, the Sunraysia Academy of Sport (SAS) Netball Program provides a high-performance development pathway for talented junior netballers from the Sunraysia region.
Running in the first term, the program supports athletes selected to compete at the 2026 State Titles through access to elite coaching, specialist services, and education opportunities beyond the local level. Athletes will participate in a two-day camp led by elite netballer Madi Browne, an individualised Strength and Conditioning program, and education sessions covering nutrition, mental skills, and injury prevention.
The 2026 SAS Netball Program delivers a structured, supportive, and high-quality development environment aimed at preparing Sunraysia’s emerging netball talent for the next level of competition

WestVic Academy of Sport offers netball athletes' access to a range of services and resources to support athlete development and is complimentary to their existing training programs. The WVAS Netball Program is supported by Netball Victoria and is included within the Netball Pathway Framework. The program provides athletes the opportunity to access support in a range of areas, including nutrition, physio, wellbeing education, athlete testing, specific sport-based S&C and on court athlete development days.
