Support your club’s wellbeing with free courses!
Thanks to our Principal Partner, WorkSafe, and delivery partner, Sport and Life Training (SALT) , Netball Victoria is offering a range of FREE health and wellbeing courses to netball clubs across the state.
At Netball Victoria, we are proud to work with WorkSafe to champion the physical and mental wellbeing of all our athletes.
In response to community feedback, the program now features two exciting additions:
Empowered: Helping girls challenge stereotypes and embrace their own definition of what it means to be a woman.
Team First Leadership: Teaching netballers the key qualities needed to succeed both on and off the court.
Plus, WorkSafe Mental Health and Wellbeing: It will teach netballers how to have genuine conversations and help break down the stigma that still surrounds mental health issues.
These courses equip clubs with valuable tools to support their members, creating a stronger, more resilient and thriving netball community.

Clubs can choose either a Junior or Senior session. The senior session is for anyone 16+ and can be delivered as a whole club to both male and female or for females only. We also have a junior session that can be delivered to females aged between 15-19 years.
Sporting clubs and the communities that they create can play a huge part on the mental wellbeing of its players and officials.
The workshop will give participants an understanding of anxiety, depression and other common mental health disorders. It will educate them on how to have real conversations and aims to reduce the stigma that remains around mental health issues.
Participants are then equipped with a range of positive strategies to be able to deal with their own mental health challenges and how to seek out support via friends and family.

• What is depression and anxiety? What is the difference?

• Practical ways of looking after yourself and your friends

Aimed at 15 – 19-year-old females, the ‘Empowered’ workshop is designed to help girls overcome stereotypical definitions on what it means to be a woman. During the session, girls are encouraged to self-reflect and identity their character strengths, then brainstorm ways how to use their strengths to reach their highest potential.
Girls are empowered to critically evaluate the messages presented by society and discuss ways in which they are to be defined by their values, beliefs and character rather than by the way society and its expectations are placed upon them.

• What kind of person do you aspire to be?
• What kind of reputation do you want?
• What determines/undermines your self-esteem?
• What are your core values?
• How does society define a woman?
• How should society define a woman?
• The inner critical voice – identifying and challenging negative thinking patterns

• Identifying and living in our strength zone

Aimed at 15 – 19-year-old’s, the ‘Team First Leadership’ session is designed to explore the power of sports people and apply the strengths they develop in sport to life off the field.
In sport, everyone has the opportunity to lead either during a game or in competitions. The same applies to life off the field, we are all required to lead at certain points in our lives.
A good leader will develop strong relationships, lead by example, demonstrate humility and will empower others and hold themselves and others accountable.

• Leadership is influence. How will you use your influence?
• Understanding your ‘why’
• Selfish to selfless continuum
• Knowing, naming and living out your values
• Applying team values to your club

About Sport and Life Training (SALT)
SALT is a for-purpose, not-for-profit, health education charity. The SALT team is dedicated to creating sporting clubs and team environments that cater for both the competitive and personal development needs of young people through to older adults.
Their vision is to create ‘Clubs with Heart’ right across Australia. These will be club environments that provide and promote physical and emotional safety for all people, and communities that are positive, competitive, resilient, and connected.
Sport and Life Training (SALT) presentations are highly interactive and engaging and cover many different topics such as mental health and wellbeing, leadership, healthy masculinity, female empowerment, equality and respectful relationships, positive parenting and positive coaching.
Together, we understand the importance and impact of sporting clubs – they are often the heart and soul of their communities. They bring together people that share a passion to excel and develop.
Sessions are aimed at people 15+ and will run for 60 to 75 minutes and will also include some content on workplace safety.
