Scholarships

During Jean’s netball career, she was President of both Netball Victoria and Netball Australia, was inducted as a Netball Victoria Life Member, Legend of the Game and a member of the Team of the Century.

Jean was also named Patron of Netball Victoria in 1988.

Jean Cowan generously bequeathed funds for an individual to enable their participation in netball within Victoria. Areas of assistance which Jean expressed include:

- To purchase uniforms;
- Pay for membership fees;
- To purchase netball equipment;
- Other similar or relevant expenses.

To apply for financial assistance supported by the Jean Cowan Bequest, please forward an Expression of Interest to the Executive Assistant to the CEO via email info@netballvic.com.au outlining the reasons for your request, your interest and involvement in netball and how the financial assistance will benefit your participation in netball.

Applications will be assessed on a needs basis by the relevant Netball Victoria staff.  Approvals will also be subject to an annual budget until the bequest funds are exhausted.

**Netball Victoria is keen to continue Jean Cowan’s legacy by providing funding to those of our members are struggling through hard times and who require financial assistance to continue to participate in our sport. The Scholarship provides funding for the successful applicant to complete training in sports administration/ sport leadership. The Scholarship to a Netball Victoria or equivalent Leadership Development Program will enable administrators to develop their leadership capabilities to support their growth and progression from the Association level to Regional and State level.

Applicant Criteria

The applicant must:

Be a current volunteer or paid administrator at an Association affiliated with Netball Victoria.
Demonstrate a record of initiative and achievement in netball administration at the current level of work.
Be available to attend and complete the program in its entirety.
Nominations for the scholarship will be assessed annually by Netball Victoria.
