Overview

Netball courts are to be delivered across Melbourne, Moreland, Yarra and Darebin Councils, and will support the current and future demand for training and competition growth in these areas.

The State Netball Centre is at capacity in all peak netball periods, and waiting lists for all midweek and Saturday competitions have shrunk netball participation in inner Melbourne.

- Netball participation rates in inner Melbourne fall well below the state-wide average
- Across Darebin, Moreland and Yarra participation rates have fallen to 0.66 per cent, compared to 2.30 per cent in the rest of the state
- Based on projected population growth, at least 54 compliant courts are needed for Inner Melbourne by 2021
- Labor will partner with local councils and schools to expand netball throughout community
