The premiers for the State Titles, presented by Kinto, have been crowned after a successful three days of netball action. The weekend saw over 600 athletes take the court at the State Netball Centre along with thousands of fans cheering on every region across the weekend.
After missing the past two years of competition due to the COVID pandemic, it was phenomenal effort to have netball back in full swing with all 19 regions represented for the first time in close to 20 years. The impressive pool of talent was on full display across the weekend, with Glenelg somewhat stealing the limelight, returning to the centre stage after 10 long years.
Two Bays got their campaign off to a good start, defeating Jika in the 15/Under division by a solid eight goals (19-11).
Henderson made it back-to-back championships in the 17/Under division defeating Two Bays in what was a hard-fought contest with neither side willing to give an inch. Henderson continued their winning ways in the Open division with a convincing win against Dandenong Valley. Henderson seemed to have an answer for everything Dandenong threw at them with their defensive pressure and ability to convert under the post enabling them to shoot a hefty total.
Gippsland got the chocolates in the All Abilities Division 1 contest against Barwon, defeating them by five goals. The intensity rose even further between Chisholm and Henderson in the All Abilities Championship division, with Chisholm eventually walking away victorious thanks to a narrow two goal win.
Of course this weekend could not be possible without our amazing umpires that officiated over the weekend. with Chayna Stanfield and Ariane Virgona lead the charge in the 15/Under Grand Final while Emily Green and Carly Hewett had the job for both the 17/Under and Open Grand Finals.
We’re thrilled to have this competition back in action and would like to thank all regions for their ongoing support and thrilling games that occurred over the weekend.
