The 2022 Victorian Netball League (VNL) fixture has been released with an action-packed roster set to see plenty of exciting match-ups. After a year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, VNL returned this season albeit a condensed version with 11 rounds played. Matches were livestreamed, an initiative that will continue heading into the 2022 season.
Round 1 will commence on Wednesday March 16 and run through to the grand final on Wednesday 10 August. The season will play host to the usual 18 rounds with a number of matches to feature on a Saturday or Sunday throughout the course of the year.
The Wilson Storage Southern Saints and Ariels will be one of the first teams to take to the court in Round 1 of the season with the competition once again seeing all three divisions – Championship, Division 1 and 19&Under playing under the same roof across a number of different facilities including the recently redeveloped State Netball Centre.
The 2022 season will once again see the rollout of Pride Round which saw Melbourne University Lightning don dresses and bibs incorporating the pride flag. First Nations Round will also take place in Round 11.
There are a few exciting names that have signed on for next season, including former Melbourne Vixens and West Coast Fever goaler Kaylia Stanton joining forces with Hawks Netball.
Melbourne Vixens training partner Jordan Cransberg has re-committed with Melbourne University Lightning while fellow training partner Emily Andrew has signed on with Wilson Storage Southern Saints switching from Ariels this year.
Chelsea Sartori will be back on court for Boroondara Express after taking out the 2021 Division 1 MVP, proving to be a key cog in the midcourt. Up and coming youngster Tadiwa Kahonde has re-committed to the Saints again next year while stalwart Julia Woolley will hit the court once again for Geelong Cougars.
With the 2021 season abandoned after Round 11, we are looking forward to an entire season of VNL that will play host to up and coming Victorian talent.
