Seven locations across Victoria have been selected to host Netball Victoria’s 2023 Association Championships Zone qualifying stages, across three dates in May and June.
The Championships are a major component of the Netball Victoria Talent Pathway, where up-and-coming netballers from regional and metropolitan areas are recognised for their skills and potential. Talent Scouts attend each tournament date, inviting selected players to attend Talent Academy trials.
The Association Championships see 350 association and league representative teams from across the state compete in their zone’s qualifying tournament. The various qualifying tournaments culminate in Association Championships Finals Day on Sunday 18 June, which will again be held at Parkville’s State Netball Centre.
This year will see the introduction of a new 13&Under Male division, to be played alongside the 13&U Central East competition.
“Netball Victoria is thrilled to introduce a 13&Under Male division at Association Championships. The inclusion of the younger age division aims to promote and strengthen the pathway for boys,” said Netball Victoria General Manager, Netball Participation Mel Taylor.
“We want to open up more participation opportunities for boys and we think this is a positive step that will be supported by our affiliates and embraced by boys wanting to play netball.”
“Our Association would love to see this get off the ground,” said Hoppers Crossing Netball Association’s Sophie Went.
“Our aim is to establish a representative program for boys and maybe take a team to Association Championships – we have sent out an expression of interest and we’re excited by the level of interest out there.”
