ANC Game 1
Victorian Fury (66) defeated Sunshine Coast Lightning (58)
Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium | Gunaikurnai Land
Q1: 16-13
Fury owned the opening few minutes of the term before the defensive influence of Lightning’s Bridey Condren came to the fore. As the clock ticked down the Fury got a run on, nailing five goals straight to regain the ascendancy and hold a three-goal lead at quarter time.
Q2: 15-14
Fury made a positional switch at the break with Hannah Mundy moving into centre and Tayla Honey into wing attack. The defensive combination of Olivia Lewis and Tori Honner worked wonders to reduce the impact of Annika Lee-Jones and Reilley Batcheldor down the other end of the court.
Q3: 15-16
Holding a four-goal lead at half time the Fury made a couple of changes with Jordan Cransberg pulling on the wing defence bib and Sharni Lambden moving to goal defence. Ruby Barkmeyer proved to have a hot hand in the third, sinking them from range as shooter Emily Andrew entered the game. In a tight term the Lightning rallied to reduce the margin at the final break.
Q4: 20-15
With the game on the line, Emma Ryde returned in goal shooter while Honner also came back on in goal defence. The switch did the trick as the Fury put the foot down to clinch a game high eight-goal win.
