Teams from across the country continued to battle it out at Morayfield Sports and Events Centre on Kabi Kabi Country during Day 2 of the 2023 Australian Netball Championships.
The Victorian Fury are officially on the winners list after an impressive 30-goal win over Tasmania Wild.
Q1 | Fury 17 – 8 Wild
An outstanding quarter from Fury saw the Victorians enjoy a nine-goal lead after the first 15 minutes. It was a tight back and forth start to the match, but Fury were able to take control by preventing the Wild from moving forward and capitalising on turnovers. Goalers Emily Andrew and Lily Graham combined well in the circle and shared the shooting load, while Zara Walters was hard to stop in the midcourt. Wild’s Shelby Miller was a standout for her side with several goal assists.
Q2 | Fury 36 – 24 Wild
The Fury continued to assert dominance in the second quarter, extending their lead to 12 goals going into half time. Lily Graham had an exceptional 15 minutes under the post, while Georgia Moody took to the court and made an immediate impact in goal attack. Fury captain Sharni Lambden was solid at the other end of the court with multiple intercepts in defence. Shelby Miller had another strong quarter for the Wild, showcasing her speed and ability to read play throughout the first half.
Q3 | Fury 58 – 36 Wild
A 22 to 12-goal third quarter from the Fury saw the Victorians further extend their lead. Emily Andrew returned to court and made life difficult for Tasmania’s defensive end, while Taylah Brown’s suffocating pressure in the midcourt was on full display. Wild’s Ashlea Mawer fought hard in attack against a strong Fury defence led by Maggie Caris in goal keeper.
Q4 | Fury 75 – 45 Wild
The Fury fired home to blow out the final margin to 30 goals. Ruby Shannon had a quarter to remember in the midcourt, while Georgia Moody showcased her pinpoint feeds into the circle. Tasmanian Alexandra Vinen gave it her all during her time on court, but the Fury proved too strong with a four-quarter performance sure to have pleased coach Di Honey.
