The long-awaited redevelopment of the Anglesea Netball Pavilion will become a reality under the Andrews Labor Government after Labor Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney MP announced a $500,000 grant to the Surf Coast Shire today.
The upgrade project is one of 73 projects across the state to score a share in $22 million from the Victorian Government’s 2021 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.
The new pavilion will replace the ageing clubrooms which have been coming up short when it comes to catering for the growing numbers keen to play netball at the reserve.
Once complete the new pavilion will feature female friendly player changerooms, umpire changeroom, accessible toilet, competition and administration office, first aid and trainers’ room, accessible amenities and storage.
The new building will provide the perfect base for the Kangaroos to build on their membership, training, competitions and development programs.
And it’s not just local sport that benefits, with community groups and the nearby schools able to access the facility for local events.
With overwhelming demand for shovel-ready community sports infrastructure across Victoria, the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund is supporting projects across five categories including Better Indoor Stadiums, Female Friendly Facilities, Community Sports Lighting, Facilities for Active Seniors, and Scoreboards and Fixed Equipment.
From new LED sports lighting installations to new indoor multi-sport courts, investments like these provide high-quality and accessible places for more Victorians to secure the benefits of participating in sport and active recreation.
Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence also announced that the next round of the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund will open later this year, with up to $27 million available – including $10 million for female friendly facilities.
The Victorian Government has invested more than $1.1 billion in community sport and recreation infrastructure since 2014.
The Local Sports Infrastructure Fund is also a key component of the government’s suite of community sport and active recreation infrastructure investment programs including the World Game Facilities Fund, Community Cricket Program, Community Motorsport Program, Community Sports Infrastructure Loans Scheme and the popular Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program.
Ms Tierney acknowledged the Surf Coast Shire Council and Anglesea Football Netball Club for their commitment and financial contributions to the project.
