Sunday marked the debut of the 13&U boys division at Association Championships, with 4 teams from across the state, including Traralgon NA, Geelong Central NA, Casey NA and Merri-Bek NA.
Playing alongside their Central East 13&U peers, Merri Bek finished on top, defeating Traralgon by eight goals. In the 13&U Championship division, Casey NA emerged victorious defeating Lilydale Yarra Valley Netball Association 11 – 5. But Lilydale didn’t leave empty-handed, claiming the 13&U Reserve division by a single goal against Waverley Night Netball Association.
Wet weather couldn’t put a stop to the competition in Shepparton where the North East qualifying day was played. Players braced the wet weather and cold winds to put on some fantastic netball. In another series of close finishes, only two matches were decided by more than two goals!
Wodonga Netball Association will be confident heading into finals, qualifying in all three divisions. Goulburn Valley Football Netball League’s 17&U team shone with a nine-goal win over Ovens & Murray Football Netball League, while their 15&U team followed it up with a heart-stopping one goal win over Wodonga.
The championships continue in the final day of qualifying next Sunday, with the Central West, Eastern and Western zones yet to play.
