Beach Netball will be back in Lakes Entrance again in 2018!
After two successful years of Beach Netball events in the coastal town in Victoria’s east, Netball Victoria will launch the 2018 series there on 20 January.
More than 300 participants have been a part of Beach Netball in Lakes Entrance over the last two years and as the initiative continues to grow in popularity we hope to see even bigger numbers this year.
East Gippsland Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Joe Rettino, said the Council was again thrilled to be hosting the social and fun competition.
“We are thrilled to announce we are once again partnering with Netball Victoria to host the launch of 2018 Beach Netball in Victoria,” said Cr Rettino.
“The competition works perfectly in the Lakes Entrance environment – it’s fun, healthy and suits our family holiday destination.
“We have seen lots of excitement around the event in the past and really strong participation – we are hoping to see even more people get involved in 2018,” said Cr Rettino.
Following the launch of the series in Lakes Entrance, Shepparton will host the next Beach Netball competition from 10 February at Victoria Park Lake. Then Port Campbell will hold the final 2018 Beach Netball event on 3 March.
On top of the mixed and women’s competitions already available, Netball Victoria has added a 30+ division to the events, with Chief Executive Officer, Rosie King, saying it is great to be expanding the popular summer competition.
“We are excited to have Beach Netball back in 2018, and look forward to extending the competition further with our 30+ division,” said King.
“We hope that by including this new division, it will encourage even more people to come out and experience how great Beach Netball is,” said King.
Beach Netball is an extension of the traditional game, adhering to the same rules, however it is played on a half-court marked in the sand.
