For 60 years, Frankston District Netball Association has been a proud part of the Frankston community, creating opportunities for people of all ages to connect through netball, build lifelong friendships and be part of something bigger than the game itself.
Established in 1966 with fewer than 100 players, Frankston District Netball Association has grown significantly over six decades and is now one of Victoria’s largest netball associations. What began as a grassroots competition has developed into a thriving community supporting players, coaches, umpires, officials, volunteers and families at every stage of their netball journey.
A significant chapter in the association’s history began in 1977, when Frankston District Netball Association found its home at Jubilee Park. The move provided a strong foundation for the association to grow its competitions and strengthen its connection with the local community.
The opening of its first indoor stadium in 1993 marked another important milestone. Supported in part by contributions from Frankston District Netball Association, the facility created greater opportunities for year-round participation and gave the association the foundations to expand its programs, workforce and competitions.
More than three decades later, Jubilee Park entered a new era with the opening of the $34.9 million Jubilee Park Indoor Stadium redevelopment in 2023. The redevelopment created a modern sporting hub and a new home for Frankston District Netball Association and Peninsula Waves, providing an enhanced venue for grassroots participation, representative programs, elite pathways and major events.
Frankston District Netball Association contributed to the redevelopment, continuing its long-standing commitment to investing in the future of the sport and creating facilities that can be enjoyed by generations to come.
Today, the stadium is more than a place to play netball. It provides opportunities for sporting competitions, community events, hospitality and a range of activities, while creating new employment opportunities and welcoming people from across the region.
The growth of Frankston District Netball Association has created opportunities for participants to progress through the sport. From NetSetGO and Kinder Squad through to junior and senior competitions, school programs, representative opportunities and development programs for coaches and umpires, the association continues to provide a place for people to get involved in netball in whatever way suits them.
Its commitment to inclusive participation means there are pathways for people of all ages, abilities and genders to participate, develop their skills and find their place within the netball community.
The association’s impact extends into the Victorian Netball League. Frankston District Netball Association played an important role in establishing Peninsula Waves, securing one of the original licences when the competition was restructured in 2008. Peninsula Waves has since become an important pathway for athletes across the Mornington Peninsula and surrounding regions, providing opportunities for emerging players to progress towards the elite level.
Jubilee Park has become a destination for major netball events, welcoming participants from across Victoria and beyond. Frankston District Netball Association hosts an annual representative tournament alongside national tournaments, State Titles, school competitions, representative carnivals, pathway events, development clinics and community programs.
Its representative tournament continues to attract associations from across the state, bringing players, coaches, officials and families together and showcasing the strong community spirit that has always been central to the association.
Behind every competition, program and event are the people who have given their time to make it possible.
Over 60 years, countless volunteers, committee members, life members, coaches, umpires, officials and staff have helped shape Frankston District Netball Association into what it is today. Their dedication has created opportunities for generations of participants and helped establish a welcoming community where people can learn, compete, contribute and form connections that extend well beyond the court.
From its beginnings as a small local competition to its place today as a major netball association and community sporting hub, Frankston District Netball Association’s story is one of growth, commitment and community.
As the association celebrates 60 years, it is a chance to recognise everyone who has played a part in its journey and celebrate the generations of people who have made Frankston District Netball Association what it is today.
With a proud history behind it and Jubilee Park providing a home for the next generation, Frankston District Netball Association continues to create opportunities for people to connect, participate and thrive through netball.
