Netball Victoria is delighted with the State Government’s announcement of their intention to deliver several new netball facilities in the Darebin City Council area.
In 2015, the first Inner City Netball program courts were announced at the Darebin Community Sport Stadium, with these courts near completion it is exciting to see the next round of announcements taking place.
Today, the Andrews Labor Government announced the development of three new courts complete with competition-standard lighting at Thornbury High School, two at Northcote High School and one at Fairfield Primary School.
Netball Victoria CEO Rosie King congratulated the Government for working collaboratively with stakeholders to deliver facilities that will support the community as well as local schools.
“It is a testament of the commitment to the people of this community that we are here today to celebrate the announcement of six new and improved netball courts offering a significant increase in usage due to the inclusion of lighting,” said King.
“This announcement will enable more people to play netball and to engage in such a positive team activity to develop their wellbeing and community connections.”
“The work that the State Government is currently undertaking aligns to Netball Victoria’s vision which is to enrich Victorian communities through the sport of netball.”
The upgraded facilities will allow Netball Victoria to showcase and run a range of their products including Rock Up Netball, Netacise and Net4Kids to the Darebin and Inner City communities.
“The Darebin Netball Association has over 650 members and we anticipate an increase in participation given that this project will ensure that there will be several first-class netball facilities to meet the growing demands of the area,” said King.
“The Parkside Netball Club with over 150 members has been crying out for facilities to train their teams and we are delighted under the State Governments Inner City Netball program to be able to create a safe space for them to train, and grow their thriving Club.
The addition of these courts follows the State Government’s plans to upgrade facilities at JC Donath Reserve and Moore Park, and follows the announced plans for a feasibility study for a world-class netball complex at Yarra Park Bend.
