After filling in for a few games last year and being inspired by his family and best friend to play, this year marks Zac Giliam’s first season of competitive netball.
“So far, I’ve really enjoyed my first year, it’s been so much fun, I really love it,” Giliam said.
The Doncaster & District side head into the final having finished top of the ladder, with only one loss for the season.
“It has been a great season; we are a really close-knit community which reflects on court.”
Coming from a basketball and football background, Gilliam knows what it means to train hard and he highlights that in the lead up to the finals, training intensity has ramped up.
“Our coach has been pushing us to train like we are playing the grand final. We don’t slack off and we play the way we want to win.”
The high school student believes that his team has a good chance of coming away with the win, however he knows it will be a challenge come Wednesday night when they take on a competitive team.
“St Therese is a good side, and I’m definitely nervous for the final.”
Tristan Comans on the other hand is no stranger to the netball court, as he is currently in his tenth year of playing. Comans started with NetSetGO at age five and continued to play as a fill in when his sisters needed someone.
“Mum reckons I wanted to keep playing because I wanted to be better than my sister,” Comans said.
The young gun, who has since gone on to represent Victoria and Australia for netball, is excited for this week’s clash game against Doncaster & Districts.
“The season has been up and down. We have games where things don’t go right then we have our games where everyone’s doing everything right. But I’m really excited to see how we go in the final.”
Both Giliam and Comans will feature in this Wednesday nights final between Doncaster & Districts and St Therese at 8pm. Following the Men’s final will be the 19 & Under Mixed Grand Final at 9pm, where DDNA Pink will also take on St Therese.
