Kate Moloney has been named Captain of the Australian Fast5 team for the upcoming Fast5 Netball World Series, to be held in Melbourne later this month.
Moloney, one of the most experienced players in the Australian team, will contest her third Fast5 Netball World Series, hoping to go one better than the team’s second-placed finish in 2016.
“I’m honoured to be named Captain of the Australian Fast5 team. It’s such a young, up and coming group and I can’t wait for everyone to see some new names on the world stage,” said Moloney.
“It’s so special being able to walk out in front of a home crowd and really feed off their energy, especially in such a lively tournament.”
Moloney’s selection as Captain comes after a successful year as Captain of the Melbourne Vixens in the inaugural season of Suncorp Super Netball, with the team finishing minor premiers.
Making her debut for the Samsung Australian Diamonds last week in their Constellation Cup series win against New Zealand, Moloney’s Fast5 captaincy caps-off a standout year for the dynamic midcourter.
Fast5 Head Coach, Stacey Marinkovich, said Moloney’s experience will be valuable to the young team.
“I’m so excited to have Kate leading the Australian Fast5 team after such an impressive year captaining the Vixens in a successful Suncorp Super Netball season, and making her debut for the Diamonds just last week,” said Marinkovich.
“Her experience having played in the Fast5 Netball World Series for the last two years makes her a great leader for the young group we have.”
The Fast5 Netball World Series will be held at Hisense Arena on Saturday 28 – Sunday 29 October, with Australia taking on the best teams in the world. Tickets are available through Ticketek.
