After missing the past two years, the Marie Little Shield returns with Victoria welcoming back some familiar faces alongside some newcomers to the squad. Led by head coach, Naomi Linossier the side is shaping up nicely ahead of the tournament in late October with the mix of old and new working well.
“The more experienced players have really helped set the standard of training and build a positive team culture. Having our three captains as past players allows them to provide insight and guidance at trainings and leading into the competition.
“There’s lots of voice in this team and they truly support each other on and off the court. This isn’t just the experienced players, but the new players bring energy, passion and excitement into the squad,” she said.
The side boasts plenty of versatility with Erin, Ehlana and Emma all able to rotate through the shooting circle. While Rachael has proven to have an array of skills able to play in each third of the court such as centre, goal attack and goal defence highlighting her impressive versatility and netball smarts to have an impact in all facets of the game.
Renay is known for her midcourt craft, able to play all three roles effectively. She is likely to be joined by Bianca and Holly. Bianca plays more of a defensive style rotating through wing defence and centre while Holly has a more attacking mindset playing both centre and wing attack.
Down in defence we also have plenty of talent with both Skye and Lucy able to fulfill the goal keeper or goal defence requirements.
“This squad is very dynamic which makes them really exciting to watch,” Linossier emphasised.
“We've got a great base of skill and athleticism, mixed with some flare, which helps to mix things up as we work the ball down the court. I can't wait to see all their hard work come together as they step on court for the first time in a few weeks.”
The versatile side is set to work in Victoria’s favour according to Linossier who is eager to see the vary combinations out on court and the impact those changes can have to shake up the course of a game.
“Versatility is important as it allows our team to have different 'looks'. This means when we make a change it is hoped it impacts the game in a specific way. With all team members able to play multiple positions, we can match up against each opponent as required and give ourselves the best chance for success.” Linossier emphasised.
