A statement from Netball Australia:
Netball Australia today confirms its support of marriage equality in Australia.
As a sport, we want every Australian to value their connection with the game. We recognise the right of our players, volunteers, coaches and administrators to participate in our game without discrimination.
Chief Executive Officer Marne Fechner said, “sport has a key role to play in fostering inclusion and diversity.
“With eight out of ten Australian families having some involvement with our game – either through playing, volunteering, coaching, or in the administration of the sport – we have an important role to play in creating welcoming environments.
“Whilst this is a matter for every individual to consider on a personal basis, Netball Australia supports the same-sex marriage proposal.”
Netball Australia, led by its Board, is a signatory to Australian Marriage Equality (AME), joining 26 other sporting bodies and 1664 organisations showing their support for marriage equality.
