Netball Australia has revealed today that its highly anticipated new national league will be known as Suncorp Super Netball.
It has also unveiled the league’s bold new brand mark and website, which reflect the precision, finesse and tension that underpin the game at its highest level.
In addition to revealing the league name and brand identity, Netball Australia has announced the full 2017 fixture, which commences on Saturday 18 February with a blockbuster weekend featuring the three new local derbies (GIANTS Netball v NSW Swifts, Melbourne Vixens v Collingwood Magpies and Queensland Firebirds v Sunshine Coast Lightning), together with a classic state versus state showdown (Adelaide Thunderbirds and West Coast Fever).
“Today is truly a historic moment for sport in Australia. Suncorp Super Netball will be a game changer; not just for netball, not just for women’s sport, but for all sports fans around this country and beyond,” declared Netball Australia Chief Executive, Kate Palmer.
“Right from the outset, we have been committed to creating something extraordinary with our new national league.
“Suncorp Super Netball will showcase our sport at its absolute best. Bold, confident, strong and fiercely competitive.
“There are so many stories brewing as the league takes shape; old and new rivalries, city versus city, state versus state, old teammates on opposite sides of the court. We can’t wait to see how it unfolds.”
Suncorp CEO and Managing Director Michael Cameron said the company was proud to support one of Australia’s most successful sports whose players are wonderful role models for our younger generation.
“For years, netball has inspired generations of players to confidently pursue their goals, while also bringing families together every weekend,” Mr Cameron said.
“It’s an exciting time to be involved, and we look forward to supporting Netball Australia and the Suncorp Super Netball league.”
Eight clubs will contest the inaugural Suncorp Super Netball season, which will feature two prime time Saturday night matches every week, with the remaining two matches scheduled in the popular Friday night and Sunday afternoon timeslots.
The home and away season will be played over 14 weeks, with all eight clubs playing each other once at home, and once away. This will be followed by a three week Finals Series, to be contested by the top four-ranked teams.
The inaugural Suncorp Super Netball Grand Final will be held on Saturday 17 June.
Fans will be able to catch every match live on the big screen with two matches on Channel 9 and two matches on Telstra TV (exclusive to Telstra broadband customers). Every match will also be available live via subscription to the official league app, available in 2017.
