Netball Victoria wishes to advise that an error was made regarding the 2023 Championship Hot Shot Award announced at last night’s Victorian Netball League Awards.
With 852 goals scored, City West Falcons goaler Jane Cook should have been named the Championship Hot Shot Award winner.
Unfortunately, during the Round 2 match between City West Falcons and Peninsula Waves, an error occurred in the live scoring process and while corrected manually at the time, the incorrect goal statistics were included in the end of season awards calculation process.
We will continue to investigate the circumstances around this error to ensure it doesn’t occur again, including reviewing how we track and promote the goal scoring leaderboard for each division throughout the season.
We congratulate Jane Cook on an outstanding season, and sincerely apologise for the disappointing circumstances of her receiving this well-deserved recognition. We also offer our apologies to Championship MVP Kaylia Stanton who was incorrectly named as the winner through no fault of her own.
