With outgoing President Kirrily Zimmerman’s term coming to an end, the results of a Netball Victoria Board Election on Monday 2 May have seen Carol Cathcart elected to the role.
A new Board member has also been elected – Candice Maliko – and current Board member Nicole O’Hare was re-elected to continue in her position.
Outgoing President – Kirrily Zimmerman
Elected to the Netball Victoria Board in 2008, we farewell Kirrily after over 14 years of outstanding service. Active across all areas of the game including at Boroondara Netball Association, Kirrily is also a technical official at Suncorp Super Netball and Victorian Netball League level.
In Kirrily’s tenure she oversaw a significant move for Netball Victoria from King Street in Melbourne’s CBD to the newly redeveloped State Netball Centre and was tasked with the unenviable challenge of navigating the organisation through the COVID pandemic, playing an instrumental role in our response.
Kirrily was also a driving force in Netball Victoria’s campaign to increase recognition for female sporting icons, working alongside CEO Rosie King OAM to secure funding for statues of two netball greats including Melbourne Vixens legend Sharelle McMahon.
We thank Kirrily for her invaluable contribution and dedicated service to Victorian netball.
New President – Carol Cathcart
An elected director since 2020, Carol brings a wealth of experience in the netball environment as a player, coach, umpire and administrator.
Carol is passionate about netball’s continual growth, especially across regional Victorian communities, and has considerable experience in elite netball as well as at the community level.
She has previously held roles as the Head of High Performance and as a Coach and Athlete Development Manager at Netball Australia, as well as experience coaching with teams including the Australian 21/U team, the Melbourne Vixens and the Victorian Fury.
“I’m very proud to accept the position of President, and would like to thank Kirrily for her extraordinary service in the role,” she said.
“I’m passionate about ensuring the continual growth of our sport from grassroots to the elite, particularly in regional Victoria, and look forward to continuing to work with the Board to implement our vision and achieve our shared goals.”
New Board Member – Candice Maliko
Candice joins the Netball Victoria Board with a passion for grassroots sport and inclusion at all levels. With a strong financial background as a qualified CPA, Candice’s extensive netball experience includes roles with Dandenong & District Netball Association and Kotahitanga Netball Melbourne.
As a player, parent, coach, volunteer, accredited umpire and netball administrator, Candice is excited to re-engage with the netball community, drive participation numbers up and ensure our sport is accessible for all.
Re-Elected Board Member – Nicole O’Hare
Nicole O’Hare has served as an elected director since 2019. Her re-election to the Board reflects her experience in netball leadership and dedication to developing our sport at all levels.
As well as holding a position on the Ariels VCNA committee and over 25 years’ experience in business administration, Nicole brings a strong passion for facility standards and the delivery of programs, competitions and structures that create opportunities for participation in both women’s and men’s netball.
“We thank Kirrily for her years of service, her dedication and passion for our sport,” said Netball Victoria and Melbourne Vixens CEO, Rosie King OAM.
“It’s difficult to quantify the impact Kirrily has had in her time on the Netball Victoria Board, she will be sorely missed but we know she’ll be an active part of our netball community for many years to come.”
“I would also like to congratulate and welcome Carol and Candice to their new roles, and look forward to working closely with them to achieve exciting things for Victorian netball.”
