The 2016 Association Championships concluded at the State Netball and Hockey Centre on Sunday the 26 June.
They were an overriding success with a record 362 teams from 106 associations from around Victoria taking part.
The record number of participants led to a higher standard of competition and also helped elevate the level of umpiring and coaching at the event.
“The Association Championships were a great success with the number of Associations and Leagues entering multiple teams this year. It’s testament to the work our Regional Development Managers and Coordinators are doing in the field to ensure the pathway of netball is well supported,” Netball Victoria General Manager – High Performance and Commercial Operations Michelle Gerdtz said.
“To have eight different Leagues and Association teams in the finals from five of the six zones proves how netball is competitive and strong across all of Victoria.”
The 2016 Association Championships were initially launched at Mountain and District NA, Central Murray NA and Ballarat NA with many Associations from neighbouring towns traveling to compete in the state-wide event.
On Sunday 5 June, Doncaster and District NA, Geelong Central NA, Sale NA and Shepparton NA hosted the second round of Association Championships.
The Championship teams that played in the Grand Final, regardless of whether they won or lost, were invited to the finals at the State Netball Hockey Centre on Sunday 26 June.
