Victoria’s All Abilities team won the silver medal at the 2024 Marie Little Shield tournament, but it’s not all about the silverware. A week on from their campaign, four team members reflect on what the tournament meant to them.
The Marie Little Shield is Netball Australia’s national championship for women with an intellectual disability. The competition was named after Marie Little OAM, a netballer who dedicated her life to those with an intellectual disability.

I think the team performed really well over the three days. We had good communication out on court. What I loved about the weekend was the sportsmanship that we had as a team, and making friends in the Victorian side but also teams from other states.

This was my first time being part of the Marie Little Shield team and I was feeling very happy to be a part of it. I loved playing for Victoria for the first time and making new friends in the team and at the tournament. I think I played well. I feel like I have improved so much from being part of the development squad to this year being selected into the team.
Tilly Zegir – GS, GA
I was very happy to be there, it was great to be part of the Victorian team. This was my first Marie Little Shield tournament, and I was proud of my performance and pleased with my shooting. Making it to the grand final was amazing. It took so much effort.
Erin Munckton – GS, GA
I liked the Marie Little Shield even though it was very busy and exhausting. We played well as a team, and I think I played well. I liked how I was able to move around in the goal circle and get some intercepts, and I was happy with my goal shooting. I loved seeing everyone and being able to play together as a team. I liked making new friends and helping the other teams learn about netball and how to improve their games. It was exciting to be in the grand final. We played well as a team and gave it our all. It was nice to see the other states and territories cheering for Victoria.
