The following provides a summary of Netball Australia and the Member Organisation’s response to recent commentary in the media regarding the governance of the sport.
The Netball Australia Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Friday 21 April. The Member Organisations will elect Directors at the AGM as per the process required under Netball Australia’s Constitution.
Netball Australia and the Member Organisations share a commitment to work together to achieve the best outcomes for the sport.
The sport is in total agreement around the need to move forward collectively, with a focus on the most critical issues impacting Netball, including fully leveraging the recent commercial and broadcast inroads that have been made with the inception of Suncorp Super Netball.
The players are key stakeholders and their views help shape the future of Netball. There is no intention to roll back player entitlements, in fact it is our collective ambition to be the first sport to deliver fully professional female athletes in Australia with the best terms and conditions.
Netball will continue as the leading advocate for women’s sport.
The threat of industrial action is unfortunate, and not something we’d like to see in Netball.
Netball Australia will confirm the outcome of the election process following the AGM, and until such time Netball Victoria will not be making any further comment.
