The South Croydon Flames Netball Club has seen great success this year with its Woolworths NetSetGo program, thanks to a strong community focus and involvement in Netball Victoria’s recent ‘Bring a Friend’ initiative.
Led by dedicated coordinator Daniel Crowley, the South Croydon Flames’ Woolworths NetSetGo centre has been officially running since 2021. While numbers in the early years were modest, Term 3 this year marked a milestone with a club-high total of 18 registered participants.
Crowley, who joined the club in late 2024 after coordinating NetSetGo at his previous club, brings passion and a growing coaching résumé to the program.
“I got involved in NetSetGo as I was my previous club president and I wanted to have more fun and learn more about the sport. I started coaching and coordinating and loved it,” said Crowley.
“NetSetGo is not only a starting point for players but also for coaches.”
In August, the club jumped on Netball Victoria’s ‘Bring a Friend’ initiative, where centres across the state were encouraged to open up their sessions to their participants’ friends, designed to boost community engagement and participation.
The Flames embraced the opportunity, promoting the program through social media, emails, and local school networks, and it paid off. Nine new members joined the program, with many starting through the free trial before registering themselves.
The South Croydon Flames are committed to making the program a vibrant, inclusive, and welcoming space for children and their families.
“Our kids love the program as they can meet new friends and have some fun playing netball games.”
Crowley also credits the resources provided by Netball Victoria as vital to their success.
“As coordinator, I make sure that I attend any relevant webinar training sessions for NetSetGo and utilise the NetSetGo toolkit that is supplied to help keep our program in line with the national program.”
With a strong foundation, growing numbers, and an enthusiastic coordinator at the helm, the South Croydon Flames Woolworths NetSetGo program is igniting a love of netball in its youngest members, and setting them up for a bright future in the sport.
