Netball Victoria sends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Netball Victoria Legend and former Captain of Australia, Gloria Haycroft, following her passing at the age of 86.
Joyce Brown OAM has penned a tribute to her.
Tribute to Captain
Gloria Haycroft (Wade) died last week at the age of 86. She was Club Captain of Aberfeldie, of Victoria and Australia in the mid to late 50’s.
She was WA and Captain of Aberfeldie in my first year of elite netball. She was a fierce competitor, extremely focused on skills and tactics of the game, and a humble person off court.
The Wade Family started the Aberfeldie Club which ran 10 teams each Saturday at Royal Park. Marjorie her sister, played in defence and represented Victorian on many occasions.
Condolences Marj.
The Club was a family affair which started many young netballers on the road to enjoyment and success. To a young 19-year-old, Gloria was supportive and encouraging on court and strict at sticking to tactical plans in attack. She was a successful Captain of all levels and appropriately awarded a Legend of Victoria.
Well done Gloria, you played the game well.
Joyce Brown OAM.
