Netball Victoria sends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Netball Victoria Life Member Anne George, following her passing at the age of 79.
Anne made an outstanding contribution to our netball community as a volunteer and administrator at all levels of the game. She was the visionary and driving force behind the development of the Waverley Netball Centre.
Netball Victoria Director Jenny Sanchez, on behalf of the organisation, acknowledged the service of Anne over so many years.
“It is with great sadness we acknowledge the passing of Anne George. Anne was inducted as a Life Member in 1979, following her lifelong dedication to the game of netball.
“One of Anne’s many achievements was the development and management of the Waverley Netball Centre, which to this day is a major playing facility for thousands of netballers in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs,” said Sanchez.
“There is little doubt the netball community in Victoria has benefitted significantly from Anne’s tireless service over many years and we are all so very grateful,” said Sanchez.
Anne was a remarkable woman of netball. She will be greatly missed.
As a mark of respect to Anne, the Melbourne Vixens have chosen to wear black armbands this weekend when they take on West Coast Fever in Perth (Saturday 8.45pm AEST).
