Netball Australia has today announced the 2027 First Nations Black Swans squad, with Victorian athletes Holly Stephens and Chloe Eyre among the 20 athletes selected.
Both athletes represented Victoria at the 2026 First Nations Tournament in Melbourne last week, with Stephens earning selection in the Team of the Tournament as a goal shooter following a standout campaign for the Victorian First Nations State Team.
The 2027 selection marks the second consecutive year Stephens and Eyre have been named in the Black Swans squad, continuing their progression through the First Nations netball pathway.
Proudly supported by the Confident Girls Foundation, the 2027 Black Swans squad features 20 athletes, including 17 returning players and three new selections, with six states and territories represented.
The Black Swans are set to compete in an international tournament in 2027, with further details to be announced in the coming months.
Black Swans Head Coach Jen Wright said the quality of talent available made selection a challenging but exciting process.
“The depth of talent across First Nations netball continues to grow, and that made this selection process incredibly exciting,” Wright said.
“There were so many outstanding performances and athletes putting their hand up, which is a great reflection of the strength of the pathway.”
Netball Australia General Manager, First Nations and proud Kamilaroi woman Ali Tucker-Munro said selection in the Black Swans program held a special significance for athletes and their communities.
“Being selected as a Black Swan means so much because these athletes are not only representing themselves – they are representing their families, their communities and their culture with great pride,” Tucker-Munro said.
“The Black Swans program continues to play an important role in creating opportunities for First Nations athletes to progress through the netball pathway. We’re proud to see the program growing and providing more athletes with the opportunity to develop and compete at this level.”
