After weeks of trials and testing the 17/Under and 19/Under 2022 Victorian state teams have been selected, with a number of familiar faces making their way into the respective squads.
Melbourne Vixens squad member, Emily Andrew has been selected in the 19/U team with the talented goaler impressing on many levels. Representing the Southern Saints in the Victorian Netball League (VNL) last year, Andrew proved to be a consistent threat under the post.
Olivia Wilkinson also joins Andrew inside the goal circle, with the Peninsula Waves representative showcasing her versatility to play both goal attack and goal shooter. Wilkinson’s teammates at VNL level Eryn Stocker and Sussu Liai also got the nod in the 19/U Victorian side.
Liai has also been selected in the National squad alongside the likes of Andrew and Zara Walters, highlighting Victoria’s dominance in this age group.
Melbourne University Lightning is well represented in the 19/U Victorian side with defensive-minded midcourter Grace Markovic selected alongside Charlee Kemp.
It was a good day for City West Falcons as the combination of Charli Nicol and Melissa Oloamanu will once again team up – this time at state level. Selected to represent Australia in the 17/U squad, the pair have made the step up to 19/U at Victorian level - testament to their skillset and netball prowess.
Diving into the 17/U squad and exciting midcourter Tara Watson has been selected to represent Victoria for the upcoming season. Picked for national duties and now state, Watson will have her hands full like many of her counterparts.
Emma Winfield also secured a spot in the 17/U team. Winfield re-signed with Melbourne University Lightning for the 2022 VNL season.
Parkville Netball also had a couple of players named in the 17/U squad with Charlotte Morey and defender Kahlan Tanoi recognised for their tenacity and netball knowledge.
Netball Victoria, Pathways Manager Sarah Collett expressed her enthusiasm around the selection of both squads ahead of the National Netball Championships.
“We are really excited with the announcement of the 2022 Victorian state teams. Following two years of interrupted netball, it was great to see the level of talent during the squad training phase, and it certainly made the selector's job difficult.
“The teams will now go straight into training on Friday to prepare for the National Netball Championships in April.”
