The 2023 Marie Little Shield tournament concluded at the Waverley Netball Centre on Sunday, with Victoria emerging as champions after a stellar weekend of competition.
The tournament provides an opportunity for women with an intellectual disability to represent their state at a national level.
The team showcased their skills and determination throughout the event, delivering an outstanding performance which saw them claim their third Marie Little Shield title.
The road to victory wasn't without its challenges, as Victoria faced their rivals from New South Wales in the final pool match and suffered a narrow defeat. However, this setback only fuelled their determination to succeed, and they bounced back brilliantly in the gold medal match later that day.
The tournament was marked by positivity, with all teams exhibiting the true spirit of the game. Players from all states and territories forged connections and friendships that extended beyond the competition, emphasising the camaraderie within the netball community.
Emma Daffy's performance was exceptional, demonstrating her accuracy both close to the post and from range. Her strategic positioning and use of the wings allowed her to consistently find the best scoring opportunities. Erin Munckton's distinctive one-armed shooting style proved highly effective, and her skilful footwork ensured prime positioning under the post.

Renay Hall, the team's most experienced player, led from the front with her quick transitions and exceptional game awareness. Holly O’Sullivan's infectious energy and versatility shone through as she seamlessly switched between midcourt and goal shooter roles.
Captain Rachael Potter's leadership was outstanding, guiding the team with enthusiasm and positivity. Her quick passes, impressive drives, and precision feeds proved unstoppable in the midcourt. Sky-Ann Grace's energy and willingness to put her body on the line made her a key player in the defensive end.
Debutant Jessica McCullogh showcased her excellent holds and aerial ability, snagging several rebounds and proving herself a vital asset in the Victorian defence. Ashlea Rollason saw a successful return to the team, as her goalkeeping skills and vision allowed her to anticipate plays and secure crucial intercepts.
